Cool Facts
Waves everywhere. Sound is made of invisible waves that travel through air, water, and even solid objects like walls. When you speak, your voice creates vibrations that spread out in all directions as waves.
Beyond our ears. Acoustics isn't just about sounds we can hear. It also studies ultrasound (super high sounds that dogs can hear) and infrasound (super low sounds that whales use to talk across oceans).
Vibrations make it real. When a drum is hit or a guitar string is plucked, it vibrates back and forth really fast. These vibrations push against the air to create the sound waves that reach your ears.
Engineering sound. Acoustical engineers use this science to design concert halls where music sounds perfect, make recording studios where every note is clear, and create quieter cars and airplanes.
All around you. Acoustics touches almost everything we do, from music players and phone speakers to noise canceling headphones and even medical ultrasound machines that doctors use.
