Avaceratops

Small horned dinosaur. Avaceratops was much smaller than its famous cousin Triceratops, making it one of the tiniest ceratopsians ever discovered.

Vegetarian dinosaur. It munched on plants and shrubs using its powerful beak to slice through tough vegetation.

Lived long ago. Avaceratops roamed the Earth during the late Campanian period, about 83 to 72 million years ago, when the Northwest United States looked very different.

Fossil discoveries. Scientists found most of the Avaceratops fossils in the Judith River Formation, a rock layer that tells us about life in ancient North America.

Ceratopsian family. It belonged to a special group of dinosaurs called ceratopsians that had horns and frills on their heads.
