Lowest Capital Ever. Baku holds an amazing record as the lowest-lying national capital in the world, sitting 28 metres (92 feet) below sea level. No other capital city of any country sits lower than this.

Caspian Sea City. Baku sits on the shore of the Caspian Sea, which is the world's largest inland body of water. The city spreads across the Absheron Peninsula and wraps around the Bay of Baku.

Two Million People. Over two million people live in Baku, making it the largest city in the entire Caucasus region, which sits between Europe and Asia. About one quarter of all people living in Azerbaijan live here.
