Cool Facts
A back-and-forth game. Bargaining is when a buyer and seller go back and forth talking about the price of something until they both agree on a deal. If they can't agree, the sale might not happen at all.
Common in street markets. You'll see bargaining happen a lot in street markets around the world, especially in places where prices aren't fixed on tags. Shopkeepers and customers negotiate to find a price that works for both of them.
A real skill to learn. Many people think bargaining is a skill you can get better at with practice. Good bargainers listen, stay calm, and understand what things are really worth so they can make smart offers.
Price isn't always set. Unlike stores where prices are printed on everything, at street markets and bazaars the starting price is often just the beginning of a conversation. Both the buyer and seller might move on their number to reach a deal.
Happens more in some places. Bargaining is more common in countries or neighborhoods where people have less money to spend. As communities grow richer and more stores use fixed prices, bargaining becomes less common.
