Baseball Field

Diamond shape. The infield of a baseball field is shaped like a diamond, created by four bases (home plate, first base, second base, and third base) positioned at the corners 90 feet apart from each other.

Pitcher's mound. In the center of the diamond sits a raised mound where the pitcher stands to throw the ball toward the batter at home plate.

Grass and dirt. Baseball fields have a mix of grass for the outfield areas and packed dirt that covers the infield, base paths, and pitcher's mound.

Foul territory. Beyond the first and third base lines are foul territory areas where balls can still be in play, but hitting into far foul territory counts as a strike or out.

Baseball parks. When a baseball field is surrounded by stands and buildings, it's called a baseball park or stadium where fans can watch games live.
