Cool Facts
Mix it up. Bibimbap's name literally means "mixing rice" in Korean, and that's exactly what you do! You stir everything together in your bowl right before eating to blend all the flavors.
The base is rice. Every bibimbap starts with a warm bowl of plain white rice, which becomes the perfect canvas for all the toppings and sauce.
Spicy red sauce. Gochujang is a special Korean red chili paste that gives bibimbap its signature spicy kick and bright red color when mixed throughout the bowl.
Usually has an egg. A cooked egg is almost always placed on top of the rice, and when you mix everything together, the warm yolk becomes part of the creamy, delicious sauce.
Vegetables galore. Namul, which are seasoned Korean vegetables, pile on top alongside sliced meat, creating a colorful mountain of flavors and textures in every bite.
