Huge, Heavy Horns. A bighorn sheep's horns can weigh up to 14 kilograms, which is about as heavy as 30 pounds or a full-grown bowling ball. The sheep use these impressive curved horns to show off their strength and to settle battles with other males.

Mountain Masters. Bighorn sheep live in rocky, mountainous areas across North America where most other animals struggle to survive. Their special hooves help them grip steep cliffs and jump between impossible-looking rocks without slipping.

Seriously Strong. An adult bighorn sheep can weigh up to 143 kilograms, which is about 315 pounds. These powerful animals need to be strong and sturdy to live and thrive in the rugged mountain terrain where they make their home.

Three Subspecies. Scientists have discovered that bighorn sheep actually come in three different subspecies across North America. One subspecies, called Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep, is endangered and faces challenges surviving in the wild.
