Official Money. The Brazilian real is the currency that all people in Brazil use to buy things, pay for services, and save their money. It replaced an older currency called the cruzeiro real in 1994.

Central Bank Controls It. The Central Bank of Brazil is in charge of making and managing the real. They decide how much money to print and make sure the currency stays stable.

100 Centavos Each. One Brazilian real is divided into 100 smaller units called centavos, just like how one dollar is divided into 100 cents. You can use centavos to buy small items.

Symbol and Code. The Brazilian real has the symbol R$ and the international code BRL. You'll see R$ written before prices in Brazil when people are buying and selling things.
