South Africa's heart. Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa, which means the Parliament (the group of people who make laws for the country) meets there. It's the oldest city in the entire country, founded way back in the 1600s.
Table Mountain watches over. The city sits at the base of an enormous flat-topped mountain called Table Mountain that rises 1,086 meters high. It's so iconic that it's one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and looks like a giant's table.
Where two oceans meet. Cape Town sits on the southwestern tip of Africa where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans come together. Many people visit the famous Cape Point to see where these two massive oceans meet.
Rainbow of culture. The city is known for its colorful neighborhoods, vibrant street art, stunning beaches, and mix of cultures. You'll find everything from fancy restaurants to creative markets and museums telling South Africa's fascinating history.
Second biggest by people. While Johannesburg is bigger, Cape Town is South Africa's second-largest city and the biggest city in the Western Cape province. Over 4 million people call the Cape Town area home.
