Amazing singers. Male common blackbirds are famous for their rich, flute-like songs that they sing from tree tops and garden fences. Their melodies are so pretty that people have loved listening to them for hundreds of years.

World travelers. These blackbirds live across Europe, western Asia, and North Africa, and some groups stay put all year while others migrate south when it gets cold. Humans have even brought them to Australia and New Zealand, where they've settled in nicely.

Real thrush family. The common blackbird belongs to the true thrush family, which means it's related to other beloved garden birds and forest singers. It's not a type of crow even though it's black and called a 'blackbird.'

Urban gardeners. These birds love living near people in gardens, parks, and hedgerows where they can find worms, insects, and berries to eat. They've become so comfortable around humans that you might spot one hopping around your backyard.

Bold looks. Males are jet black with bright yellow-orange beaks and eye rings that make them stand out, while females are brown and more camouflaged. This difference helps them survive in different ways as they raise their families.
