Simple but tricky. The cup-and-ball is just a wooden handle with a ball attached by a string, but catching the ball in the cup takes lots of practice and steady hands.

Popular everywhere. This toy has been played with for centuries and is loved in Spanish-speaking countries, France (where it was called bilboquet), Japan, and many other parts of the world.

Tricky variations. Some versions have one cup, some have two cups, and some have a sharp spike instead of a cup that the player tries to land the ball onto.

Japanese cousin. Japan has a similar toy called kendama that uses three cups and a spike, and it has become so popular that people play it all over the world now.

A real skill challenge. Cup-and-ball might look easy, but it requires focus, timing, and coordination to swing the ball just right and catch it perfectly.
