A blue supergiant. Deneb is a massive, hot star that glows brilliant blue. It's so enormous that if you could stand on its surface, you'd weigh thousands of times more than you do on Earth.
Super bright and distant. Deneb is the 19th brightest star visible from Earth, yet it's incredibly far away, meaning it must be absolutely enormous and powerful to shine so brightly across that vast distance.
Head of the Northern Cross. When you look up at the night sky, Deneb marks the top of an asterism called the Northern Cross, making it a useful landmark for stargazers.
Part of Summer Triangle. Deneb is one of three bright stars that form the Summer Triangle, a giant pattern of stars that's easy to spot during warm months in the Northern Hemisphere.
Named Alpha Cygni. Deneb's official name in astronomy is Alpha Cygni because it's the brightest star in the constellation Cygnus, which represents a swan flying across the sky.
