Cool Facts
Cubes with numbers. A standard die is a cube with six sides, each showing a different number from 1 to 6. When you roll a die, it lands on one side at random, giving you an unpredictable result.
Ancient origins. People have been using dice for thousands of years, with archaeologists finding evidence that ancient Egyptians and Romans played with dice made from bone, stone, and ivory.
Fair and random. A fair die is balanced so each number has an equal chance of landing face-up, which is why dice are perfect for games where you want luck to decide who goes first or how many spaces you move.
More than six sides. While six-sided dice are most common, you can find dice with 4, 8, 10, 12, or even 20 sides used in games like Dungeons and Dragons where more variety helps tell bigger stories.
Games need randomness. Dice create fairness in games by making sure nobody can predict or control what happens next, giving every player an equal chance to win through luck and skill.
