The Dolomites

Pale, dramatic peaks. The Dolomites get their nickname 'Pale Mountains' because they're made of a special light-colored rock called dolomite limestone that glows pale yellow and white, especially at sunset.

Located in northeast Italy. These mountains stretch across northeastern Italy, from the Adige River in the west to the Piave Valley in the east, and they're shared between seven different provinces.

Part of the Alps. The Dolomites are a section of the larger Southern Limestone Alps, one of the most impressive mountain ranges in Europe.

Three valleys define them. The mountains are bordered by the Puster Valley to the north and the Sugana Valley to the south, which help mark where the Dolomites begin and end.

Three regions meet here. The Dolomites sit where three different Italian regions come together: Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
