Electronic Percussion Maker. A drum machine creates drum sounds and beats using electronics instead of actual drums. It can copy real drum kits or make completely new, futuristic sounds that no acoustic drum could ever make.

Built-in Beat Patterns. Most drum machines come with pre-programmed beats for popular music styles like pop, rock, and dance music. You can use these patterns right away, or program your own custom rhythms to match any song you imagine.

Sound Creation Methods. Drum machines make sounds in two ways: they can use analog synthesis to generate electronic tones from scratch, or play back samples (recordings) of real drum sounds. Some machines use both methods together.

User Customization. Modern drum machines let you create your own beats and patterns by programming exactly when each drum sound should play. This gives musicians total control over the rhythm and feel of their music.
