Ant Expert. E. O. Wilson spent his whole life studying ants and discovered thousands of new species. He learned how ants communicate with each other using special chemicals called pheromones, like a secret language only they can smell.

Created Sociobiology. Wilson invented sociobiology, a brand new field of science that explains how animals and insects behave together in groups. His work showed that the way ants, bees, and other creatures cooperate can teach us about behavior in all living things.

Author and Teacher. Wilson wrote dozens of books that won major prizes, including Pulitzer Prizes, and taught at Harvard University for most of his career. He made science exciting by helping regular people understand the incredible world of insects and nature.

Conservation Champion. Wilson cared deeply about protecting all the different species on Earth and warned that we need to save wild places before animals disappear forever. He believed that understanding nature was the key to saving it.

Pioneering Naturalist. Wilson combined old-fashioned field exploration with modern science, going out into nature to observe creatures firsthand while also using new laboratory techniques. This made him one of the greatest naturalists of the modern age.
