Studying money patterns. Economists look at how people earn, spend, and save their money. They try to figure out why prices go up or down, and what makes some countries richer than others.

Solving real problems. Economists help governments and businesses make big decisions about money. They might predict what the economy will do next year or suggest ways to help people who don't have jobs.

A real profession. Becoming an economist usually means going to university to study economics for several years. Then you might work for a government, a bank, a company, or teach other students.

Understanding the world. Economists study how countries trade with each other, why some people are poor and others are rich, and how new technology changes the way we work and buy things.
