When is it?. Election Day in the US always falls on the Tuesday right after the first Monday in November, and it only happens in even-numbered years like 2024 and 2026.

Why Tuesday?. Congress picked Tuesday back in the 1800s because it gave farmers time to travel to town on horseback after finishing their Sunday church services and Monday chores.

What gets voted on?. On Election Day, Americans vote for federal officials like the President, senators, and members of Congress, plus state and local leaders like governors, mayors, and school board members.

It's a rule, not a choice. The date and timing of federal elections are set by law, which means the government legally controls when voting happens to make sure it's fair and organized for everyone.
