Blocks Invisible Waves. A Faraday cage is made of metal mesh or a continuous metal covering that stops electromagnetic fields from passing through it. It works like an invisible force field that traps or blocks radio waves, lightning, and other invisible energy.

Named After a Scientist. The Faraday cage gets its name from Michael Faraday, a famous scientist who created the first one in 1836. He discovered how electromagnetic fields work and invented this clever way to protect things from them.

Metal Mesh Works. You don't need solid metal to make a Faraday cage, you can use metal mesh instead. The holes in the mesh are small enough that electromagnetic waves bounce off or get trapped before they can pass through.

Real World Uses. Faraday cages protect important things like phone signals, power lines, and equipment in hospitals. They also protect delicate electronics from lightning strikes and interference from other electronic devices.

Electric Fields Inside. If you're inside a Faraday cage when lightning strikes, the electricity travels around the outside of the cage instead of passing through it, keeping you safe inside.
