The flag turned 247 years old. Flag Day happens on June 14 every year, marking the exact day in 1777 when the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the flag of the United States.

Thirteen stars, thirteen stripes. The original flag had 13 stars in a blue field and 13 red and white stripes, representing the 13 original states. Each star looked like a constellation in the sky.

Congress made it official. The Second Continental Congress passed a special resolution that described exactly what the flag should look like, including the alternating red and white stripes and the white stars on blue.

Americans honor their flag. People celebrate Flag Day by flying flags, attending parades, and learning about the flag's history and what it means to the country.
