Cool Facts
Flavor detectives. Flavorists mix chemicals together to create tasty flavors for foods, drinks, and even medicines. They're like wizards in labs, but instead of magic spells, they use chemistry!
Smells and tastes. Flavorists work with both how something smells and how it tastes, kind of like how a perfume maker works with scents. But everything they create has to be totally safe to eat or drink.
Natural and fake. They can copy flavors that already exist in nature, like strawberry or vanilla, or create brand new flavors nobody has tasted before. Both count as flavorist work!
Chemistry tools. Flavorists use many of the same tools and materials as perfume makers, including test tubes, scales, and special chemical compounds. The main difference is that flavorists' creations go into your belly, not on your skin.
In everyday foods. The flavoring in your soda, candy, ice cream, and even that chicken soup might have been designed by a flavorist to taste exactly right.
