Art masterpiece capital. Florence is home to some of the world's most famous artworks, including Michelangelo's David statue and paintings by Leonardo da Vinci. Artists came from everywhere to learn and create in this magical city.

Renaissance birthplace. During the 1300s to 1600s, Florence exploded with new ideas about art, science, and learning that spread across Europe. This period called the Renaissance changed how people saw the world.

Powerful families ruled it. The Medici family controlled Florence for hundreds of years and became incredibly rich and influential. They used their wealth to support artists and help make Florence the greatest city in Italy.

Heart of Tuscany. Florence sits in the beautiful Tuscany region known for rolling hills, wine vineyards, and countryside villages. Today about 362,000 people live in the city itself, making it a bustling place full of visitors and history lovers.
