What it does. A game controller sends commands to your game system to make characters move, jump, shoot, or perform other actions. It's like the bridge between your hands and the world inside the screen.

Many shapes and sizes. Game controllers come in many forms, from simple joysticks and directional pads to modern gamepads with multiple buttons, analog sticks, and even motion sensors that detect when you tilt or shake the controller.

Different input types. Keyboards and mice can be game controllers too, and some special controllers like steering wheels work great for racing games while light guns are designed for shooting games.

Evolving technology. Controllers have gotten much smarter over time, adding features like touch screens, vibration feedback, and motion detection so games feel more realistic and fun to play.
