Celtic Warriors. The Gauls were Celtic peoples who lived in mainland Europe during the Iron Age and Roman times. They were known for being bold and skilled fighters who valued honor and bravery in battle.

Called Gaul. The Gauls' homeland was called Gaul, or Gallia in Latin. This region is roughly where France is located today, though Gaulish territory was much larger and covered parts of modern-day Switzerland, Belgium, and other areas.

Gaulish Language. The Gauls spoke Gaulish, which was a Continental Celtic language related to other Celtic languages. Like other ancient languages, Gaulish eventually disappeared as Latin spread across the Roman Empire.

Roman Conquest. Julius Caesar and the Romans eventually conquered Gaul and its Celtic people. This conquest was one of the most important military campaigns in ancient history and changed European culture forever.
