Massive glass building.. The Crystal Palace was a huge greenhouse made almost entirely of glass and iron. It was built in Hyde Park, London, just to house this amazing exhibition, and had never been seen before.
First world's fair ever.. The Great Exhibition was the very first international exhibition where countries showed off their best inventions, art, and crafts all in one place. It inspired similar huge fairs that happened all over the world after that.
Industrial treasures inside.. Visitors could see incredible machines, beautiful furniture, fancy textiles, and amazing things made by skilled workers from Britain and other countries. People were blown away by how advanced human invention had become.
Royal inspiration.. Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria, and organizer Henry Cole dreamed up this massive event to celebrate industry and bring nations together through trade and innovation.
Six months of wonder.. The exhibition ran from May 1 to October 15, 1851, and over 6 million people visited during that time, making it a huge success that changed how the world thought about showcasing human achievement.
