Harriet Quimby

First licensed female pilot. In 1911, Harriet Quimby became the very first woman in the United States to earn an official pilot's license. She trained hard and proved that women could master flying just as well as men.

Crossed the English Channel. In 1912, Quimby flew solo across the English Channel from France to England, making her the first woman to accomplish this daring feat. The journey took about two hours over cold, choppy water.

Writer and screenwriter. Before becoming a pilot, Harriet was already successful as a journalist and writer for newspapers and magazines. She even wrote screenplays for early films, making her a creative force in multiple fields.

Short but mighty career. Though she only flew for one year before a tragic accident in 1912, Quimby made an enormous impact on aviation and showed the world that women could do extraordinary things. Her courage inspired countless women to follow their dreams in aviation.
