Cool Facts
A Super Jupiter. HD 189733 b is almost as massive as Jupiter, with 11.2% more mass and 11.4% more size, making it a giant world way bigger than Earth.
Incredibly Hot and Close. This planet orbits its star once every 2.2 days, racing around much faster and closer than Mercury does around our Sun, which makes it extremely hot.
Found by Shadow. French astronomers discovered it in 2005 by watching the tiny shadow it cast as it passed in front of its star, like a speck crossing a bright light.
Far Far Away. HD 189733 b lives 64.5 light-years from Earth in the constellation Vulpecula, so far that light from its star takes 64.5 years to reach us.
No Life Possible. The planet is way too hot and close to its star for life to exist there, unlike some other exoplanets scientists study.
