Born in 1968. Hot Wheels were created by Elliot Handler and his company Mattel on May 18, 1968. They were designed to be faster and flashier than other toy cars at the time.
Super speedy design. Hot Wheels were famous for their low-friction wheels that made them roll much faster than competing toy cars like Matchbox. Kids loved racing them down tracks and ramps because they could zoom incredibly fast.
Beat the competition. For many years, Hot Wheels was the top competitor against Matchbox cars. In 1997, Mattel bought the company that owned Matchbox, making Hot Wheels the leader of the toy car world.
Colorful and wild. Hot Wheels cars come in bright colors, crazy designs, and unusual shapes. Some look like real sports cars while others are completely fantastical and futuristic.
