Home of the 500. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway hosts the legendary Indianapolis 500, one of the most famous car races in the world where drivers zoom around the track 200 times in a single day.

Made of bricks. The track was originally paved with more than 3 million bricks, which is why people sometimes call it 'The Brickyard' even though it has been repaved many times since.

Massive oval shape. The speedway is a huge oval circuit that lets drivers go incredibly fast because they can keep accelerating around the smooth, banked turns.

West of Indianapolis. Located six miles west of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, the speedway sits in its own special suburb called Speedway, which was created just for this famous racetrack.

Hosted many races. Besides the Indianapolis 500 for cars, the speedway has also hosted motorcycle races and Formula One races, making it one of the most important racing venues in America.
