Constantly Erupting. Io is the most volcanically active place in our entire Solar System. Hundreds of volcanoes cover its surface, constantly shooting lava and gases into space, which is why scientists keep a close eye on it.

Tiny but Mighty. Even though Io is only slightly larger than Earth's Moon, it has the strongest gravity and highest density of any natural satellite. That means if you stood on Io, it would pull on you extra hard.

Found by Galileo. Io is one of the four Galilean moons, discovered by the famous scientist Galileo Galilei over 400 years ago. These four moons were named after him because they were such an important discovery.

Super Dry World. Io has the least amount of water of any known object in space. It's almost completely dry, which makes it very different from other moons like Europa that have icy oceans underneath.

Colorful Surface. The volcanoes on Io spray different colored materials across its surface, creating patterns of yellows, oranges, reds, and blacks. It's like a natural artist has been painting the moon for billions of years.
