Painted quiet moments. Vermeer loved to paint people doing everyday things in their homes, like reading letters, pouring milk, or making music. His paintings feel so peaceful and real that you feel like you're peeking into someone's private world.

Master of light. Vermeer had a magical gift for showing how light fell through windows and touched faces and objects. The way he painted light made ordinary rooms look almost heavenly, and many artists spent centuries trying to copy his technique.

Lived in Delft. Vermeer spent most of his life in the quiet Dutch city of Delft, painting scenes of the middle-class families around him. While he was known and respected there, he wasn't famous across Europe during his lifetime.

Painted very few works. Vermeer only created around 35 paintings in his entire life, which makes each one feel extra special. He probably spent a lot of time on each painting, getting every detail and every beam of light exactly right.

Art dealer, not rich. Vermeer made most of his money buying and selling other artists' paintings, not from selling his own work. When he died, his wife was left with debts, and his paintings didn't become truly famous until hundreds of years later.
