Ancient Chinese Epic. Journey to the West was written over 500 years ago during China's Ming dynasty and is considered one of the greatest novels ever created in East Asia. It has inspired countless stories, shows, and adaptations across the world.
A Holy Quest. The story follows a Buddhist monk named Xuanzang who travels west to India to fetch sacred Buddhist texts. Along his journey, he faces demons, monsters, and impossible challenges that test his faith and courage.
Monkey's Magic Power. Xuanzang's most famous companion is Sun Wukong, a clever monkey with incredible abilities like super strength and the power to transform. Sun Wukong was born from a magical stone and can jump through clouds and fight armies of demons.
Spread Across the World. An English scholar named Arthur Waley translated part of the novel in 1942, introducing Journey to the West to English readers under the title Monkey. This translation helped the story become beloved far beyond China.
Demons and Obstacles. The monk and his companions must overcome 81 different challenges and battles against monsters and evil demons on their long journey west. Each obstacle teaches them something new about courage and goodness.
