You pay to play. You'd drop a coin or two into a jukebox, then press buttons or use a keypad to pick your favorite song from the list inside. The machine would play it right away for everyone to hear.

Music on demand. Instead of waiting for a radio station to play your song, a jukebox let you choose exactly what you wanted to listen to. This made them super popular in diners and dance halls where people gathered.

Automatic record player. Early jukeboxes held stacks of vinyl records inside. When you selected a song, mechanical arms would move the records into place and play them automatically, kind of like a robot DJ.

Entertainment centerpiece. Jukeboxes weren't just for music. They became the heart of social hangouts throughout the 1900s, where friends would gather, share songs, and dance together.
