Landing Gear

Wheels and struts. Landing gear has strong wheels attached to metal struts that absorb the shock when a plane lands. These parts fold up into the plane's body during flight to reduce wind resistance.

More than just landing. Landing gear isn't just for landing. Planes use it for taxiing (rolling on the ground), taking off, and parking safely without tipping over.

Works in water too. Some aircraft and spacecraft have special landing gear that lets them touch down on water, sand, or other surfaces, not just regular runways.

Built super strong. Landing gear must be incredibly tough because it handles the full weight of a plane crashing down at high speed and still keep working perfectly.
