Dabbling ducks. Mallards are dabbling ducks, which means they tip forward in the water to reach plants and food on the bottom without diving all the way under.

Super widespread. Mallards naturally live across North America, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and humans have brought them to places like Australia, New Zealand, and South America too.

Wetland home. These ducks love living in wetlands like ponds, marshes, and shallow lakes where they can easily find water plants and small animals to eat.

Flock friends. Mallards are very social ducks that prefer to spend time in groups or flocks together rather than alone.
