Tiny forest hunter. Margays are one of the smallest wildcats in the Americas, weighing only about 2.6 to 4 pounds (roughly the size of a pet house cat). Despite their small size, they are skilled nighttime hunters that can leap between trees like acrobats.

Tree expert climber. Unlike most cats, margays have specially adapted ankle joints that let them rotate their hind legs almost all the way around, making them incredible at running headfirst down tree trunks and climbing in ways most other cats cannot.

Night shift worker. Margays are almost entirely nocturnal, meaning they hunt and explore mainly at night when they are safer from larger predators. During the day, they rest hidden in the thick forest canopy.

Lives alone always. Margays are solitary animals that live by themselves except during mating season. Each cat claims its own territory in the dense primary rainforest, avoiding contact with other margays.

Sneaky small-prey hunter. These tiny wildcats hunt small animals like rodents, birds, insects, and lizards. They use their excellent night vision and silent stalking skills to catch prey in the treetops and on the forest floor.
