Trumpets and Violins. A typical mariachi band has up to eight violins and two trumpets that create a bright, energetic sound perfect for parties and celebrations.

Special Mexican Guitars. Mariachi bands use unique guitars like the high-pitched vihuela and the guitarrón, a large acoustic bass guitar that gives the music its deep, rich foundation.

Everyone Sings. In a mariachi group, all the musicians take turns being the lead singer and backing up the others, so it's truly a team effort.

Country Roots. Mariachi music started in the countryside of western Mexico at least 300 years ago and has been evolving and getting better ever since.
