How it works. A metal detector has a coil that sends out invisible signals. When those signals hit metal, they bounce back to the detector, which beeps, lights up, or shows a number to tell you metal is nearby.

Finds things everywhere. Metal detectors work on the surface, deep underground, and even underwater. This makes them perfect for finding buried treasure, lost coins, or checking people at airports for hidden weapons.

Gets stronger closer. The closer the detector gets to metal, or the bigger the metal object is, the stronger the beep or signal becomes. This helps people know exactly where to dig or look.

Keeps people safe. Security guards use walk-through metal detectors at airports, courthouses, and prisons to make sure nobody brings dangerous metal weapons inside where they shouldn't.

Three main parts. Every metal detector has a control box that runs everything, an adjustable shaft you hold, and a pickup coil that does the actual detecting.
