Cool Facts
One rail only. A monorail runs on or hangs from a single beam or rail, which makes it totally different from regular trains that need two parallel tracks to stay balanced.
City transport solution. Monorails move lots of people through cities, but not as many as massive subway systems and more than small street trams, making them perfect for medium-sized crowds.
Looks super modern. Because monorails are elevated high above the ground and have that sleek, futuristic design, many people think of them as the transportation of the future, even though some have been around since the 1800s.
Hanging or sitting. Some monorails have trains that ride on top of a beam like a balance beam, while others hang down beneath the rail like a roller coaster suspended in the air.
