Towering giant peak. Mount Shasta reaches 14,179 feet high, making it the second-highest mountain in the Cascade Range and one of the tallest peaks in all of California.

Potentially active volcano. Mount Shasta is a stratovolcano, which means it's built up in layers from many eruptions over time. Scientists watch it because it could erupt again someday.

Massive in volume. Mount Shasta is the biggest stratovolcano in the entire Cascade Volcanic Arc, with an estimated volume of 85 cubic miles of rock and ash.

Protected forest area. The mountain and all the beautiful wilderness around it are part of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, where visitors can hike, camp, and explore nature.
