Mount Whitney

Highest in the US. Mount Whitney is the tallest peak in the contiguous United States, which means the 48 connected states (not counting Alaska and Hawaii). It reaches 14,505 feet into the sky.

End of a famous trail. The John Muir Trail, one of the most famous hiking paths in America, ends at Mount Whitney's summit after traveling 211.9 miles from Yosemite Valley to the south.

Two parks, one peak. The western slope of Mount Whitney sits inside Sequoia National Park, while the eastern slopes are part of Inyo National Forest, making it shared between two different protected areas.

Straddles two counties. Mount Whitney sits right on the border between Inyo and Tulare counties in east-central California, so the mountain technically belongs to both places.
