Three main types. Mulberry trees come in three main kinds called white, red, and black, named after the color of their sleeping buds in winter rather than the color of their fruit.
Silkworms love them. The white mulberry tree is the favorite food of silkworms, which spin the silk that people use to make beautiful fabrics.
Travels far and wide. Mulberries grow wild and are planted in many warm and cool parts of the world, from South Asia to Europe, Africa, South America, and North America.
Too successful sometimes. In some places like Brazil and the United States, mulberry trees grow so well and spread so fast that they crowd out other plants and are considered invasive species.
