October 1st Celebration. National Day happens every year on October 1st to remember when the People's Republic of China was officially founded in 1949. It's one of China's biggest holidays with parades, fireworks, and red decorations everywhere.
Mao's Big Announcement. On October 1, 1949, Mao Zedong formally declared the establishment of the People's Republic of China. This marked the start of a new government after the Chinese Civil War ended.
End of a War. The Chinese Communist Party won the Chinese Civil War, which led to the creation of the People's Republic of China. This change meant a new government took control of mainland China.
Taiwan's Separate Path. After the People's Republic was established on mainland China, the Republic of China government moved to Taiwan and its nearby islands. This meant China had two different governments in two different places.
A National Holiday. National Day is a public holiday in China where people get time off work and school to celebrate their country's founding and history.
