Started in 1966. The Notting Hill Carnival began as a small community event in a London neighborhood and has grown into something massive. Today it's one of the biggest street carnivals in the world, second only to Rio's famous carnival in Brazil.

August Bank Holiday weekend. The carnival takes place every year during the last weekend in August when many people in the UK have a long weekend off. This timing lets hundreds of thousands of people come together to celebrate.
