Oceanic Whitetip Shark

White-tipped fins. The oceanic whitetip shark gets its name from the white tips on its long, rounded fins, which makes it easy to spot in the deep ocean even from far away.

Open ocean roamer. This shark lives in the pelagic zone, which is the deep open water far from the coast where sunlight can still reach. It prefers warm tropical and temperate seas around the world.

Squid and fish hunter. Oceanic whitetips hunt bony fish and cephalopods like squid and octopus, using their stocky, powerful bodies to chase prey through the water.

Live baby sharks. Female oceanic whitetips give birth to live baby sharks instead of laying eggs, which means the young are born ready to survive on their own.

Sometimes social gatherers. Although oceanic whitetips usually hunt alone, they sometimes gather in large groups when they find a big concentration of food to eat.
