Found Famous Dinosaurs. Marsh discovered and named Stegosaurus and Triceratops, two of the most recognizable dinosaurs in the world. He was so skilled at finding and identifying fossils that he uncovered dozens of completely new species.

Studied Bird Origins. Marsh developed important theories about how birds evolved from dinosaurs, which was a revolutionary idea at the time. His research helped scientists understand that birds are actually living descendants of ancient dinosaurs.

Yale College Professor. Marsh spent his entire academic career at Yale College, where he taught paleontology and built up an amazing collection of fossils. His work made Yale one of the most important centers for dinosaur research in America.

Led Science in America. Marsh became president of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors for a scientist. This made him one of the most respected and influential scientists in the United States during his lifetime.
