Ninth Sapa Inca. Pachacuti was the ninth ruler of Cusco, a city in what is now Peru. He was the leader who changed everything and made Cusco into something enormous.

Built an empire. Before Pachacuti, Cusco was just one chiefdom among many in South America. He conquered surrounding lands through military strategy and smart leadership, creating the Inca Empire that stretched across a huge area.

Machu Picchu master. Archaeologists believe Pachacuti built the famous mountain city of Machu Picchu as a special estate for himself. This incredible stone city high in the Andes mountains still amazes visitors today.

Massive expansion. During Pachacuti's rule, the Inca Empire grew to control much of western South America. He organized the empire so it could run smoothly even though it was spread across mountains and different regions.

Strategic genius. Pachacuti didn't just win battles, he also created systems for roads, farming, and communication across his empire. These tools helped the Inca Empire last for almost 100 years after his death.
