Pan, God of the Wild

Half human, half goat. Pan had the upper body of a man but the legs, tail, and horns of a goat. This made him look wild and untamed, which perfectly matched his role as the god of nature and shepherds.

Master of wild music. Pan played an instrument made from reeds called a syrinx, creating rustic, spontaneous music. Ancient Greeks believed his music could inspire sudden fear (which is where the word 'panic' comes from).

God of Arcadia. Pan lived in the mountainous, wild forests of Arcadia in ancient Greece. He was the protector of shepherds and their flocks who wandered those rugged lands.

Connected to spring. Pan represented fertility, new growth, and the springtime season. The ancient Greeks saw him as a symbol of nature's power to create and renew life.

Playful and mischievous. Pan loved playing pranks and joking around. He was known for hanging out with nymphs (magical nature spirits) and causing all sorts of fun trouble in forests and meadows.
