Patagotitan

Truly enormous size. Patagotitan was about 100 feet long from head to tail and weighed as much as 10 elephants (50 to 60 tonnes). That makes it one of the largest land animals that ever lived.

Found in Argentina. Patagotitan lived in what is now Patagonia, a region in southern Argentina, about 100 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period.

Multiple skeletons found. Scientists discovered fossils from at least six young adult Patagotitan dinosaurs in the same rock formation, which helps us understand how these giants lived and grew.

Long-necked plant eater. Patagotitan was a titanosaur, meaning it had an extremely long neck to reach high tree leaves and ate only plants, never meat.

Best-known titanosaur. Because we have so many Patagotitan fossils, scientists know more about it than almost any other giant sauropod, making it super useful for understanding how these colossal dinosaurs were related to each other.
