Perfumer

Called a 'nose'. Perfumers are nicknamed 'noses' because they have an exceptionally trained sense of smell and can detect the tiniest differences between scents.

Scent artist. Perfumers work like painters or musicians, using fragrance ingredients as their tools to create moods and tell stories through smell.

Ingredient experts. A perfumer must know hundreds of different fragrance ingredients and understand exactly how each one smells, both alone and when mixed together.

Scents change over time. Perfumers understand how fragrances evolve on skin, starting with one scent, then shifting to another smell, and finally settling into a lasting finish.

Similar to flavourists. Flavourists do almost the same job as perfumers, except they blend smells and tastes for food products instead of creating fragrances.
